Kingston Nkhatha and Siyabonga Nkosi fired home either side of half-time at the Peter Mokaba Stadium to ensure Amakhosi made it 17 league matches without defeat while extending their lead at the top of the standings to 15 points.
The only blemish on an otherwise flawless evening for the Soweto giants came six minutes from time when Erick Mathoho inadvertently put the ball into the back of his own net, but even that was not enough to take any gloss away for Baxter.
The Englishman said: "Their character showed itself in periods of the game when it was raining and they [Stars] were launching anything into the box.
"It's that sort of camaraderie that rides out the storm.
"I work with Kingston all the time, and it was nice to see him go to his team-mates after scoring and his team-mates feeling for him.
"It was a tricky game, well-negotiated and a very welcome three points."
