The company has signed a three-year deal with the South African Football Association (SAFA) that is said to be worth US$300,000.
The SDA was created to oversee the implementation of the SAFA’s Technical Master Plan, known as Vision 2022, which aims to have all South African national soccer teams ranked amongst the world’s top 20 within the decade.
The sponsorship will be directed towards the Gert Sibande district in Mpumalanga and Fezile Dabi in the Free State. It is hoped that increasing local level investment will help to achieve the SAFA’s seven distinct goals of developing a national playing philosophy, training and licensing thousands of coaches, identifying and developing talent from the earliest age and organising structured competitions at local football association level.
Sasol group executive Maurice Radebe was pleased to announce the deal, “We are excited about this project and it is an excellent example of how we can deliver through partnerships. Sasol’s approach to sustainable development depends on building strong and mutually beneficial relationships and we are proud to be working with the Football Association and contributing to the development plan,” he said.

Dr Robin Petersen, the chief executive of the SDA added: “We are delighted that Sasol has become the first corporate partner in our bold vision to change football from the ground up. Vision 2022 is going to need multiple partners for success, and we hope that Sasol’s confidence in our vision will inspire others to join.”
Sasol expands sponsorship to include Team South Africa
The relationship between Sasol and the SAFA has spanned over 20 years; the company recently signed a four-year extension to its sponsorship of the Banyana Banyana women’s national team.
Recently elected SAFA president Danny Jordaan said in an official press release: “When we were preparing to take office, we identified development as the key priority of the SAFA administration. This sponsorship will inspire confidence in our Vision 2022 in the business
