Banyana beats Nigeria to book a place in finals

Banyana Banyana are through to the final of the African Women Championship following a hard fought 1 - 0 win against Nigeria in Bata last night.

It was a historic semi-final victory for Joseph Mkhonza's ladies, recording Banyana Banyana's first win against the Super Falcons. Banyana showed their intent to win as they began their attack early in the match and it did not come as a surprise when Jenine Van Wyk opened the scoring in the 23rd minute with a thunderous shot.

Minutes later Banyana nearly allowed Nigeria to equalise, but goalkeeper Thoko Mndaweni came to the rescue. In the second half Banyana were not as offensive as in the previous half however they could have still increased the lead beyond the reach of the Super Falcons, but poor finishing eluded them. Banyana Banyana will now meet hosts Equatorial Guinea in the final this weekend.

In the earlier match, host Equatorial Guinea maintained their 100% win at the AWC to make it through to the final. They buried Cameroon in the first half with two goals in the sixth and 40th minute.
