Kaizer Chiefs Majoro get a major fine from PSL

Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana striker Lehlohonolo Majoro was fined R30,000 on Friday by the Premier Soccer League's (PSL) disciplinary committee for removing his jersey after scoring during Amakhosi's 3-0 Premier League win over Moroka Swallows.

Displaying the message on his vest “I do have balz”.

Majoro has been ordered to pay the PSL R10,000 immediately, with the remaining R20,000 suspended on condition that he is not found guilty of a similar offence in the next year.

“The PSL, like most other football associations, frown on players removing their jerseys on the pitch while celebrating a goal, or for any other reason,” explained a spokesman for the league's disciplinary committee.

“The message displayed was of a provocative nature and tended to bring the PSL into disrepute; there are some who found the words offensive and in bad taste,” the spokesman added.

Although a leading scorer, Majoro had suffered from a lack of goals in recent matches, before finding the net against Swallows.

Majoro said he had been heckled by Chiefs' supporters in some of the team's recent matches, as well as being criticised in the media.

“I just wanted to answer my detractors and make a point,” Majoro said.

“The message on my vest was designed to do this in what I thought was a light-hearted, but meaningful manner.

“I did not imagine it would cause such a stir or end up resulting in such severe disciplinary action.”

The PSL confirmed Majoro could appeal the disciplinary committee's verdict – but the sentence could be increased if his appeal fails. – Sapa
