"Coach Shakes has been attending the tournament in Eldorado Park and Johannesburg and he was impressed by the two youngsters," said U-23 national side manager Levy Ramajoe.
"Thabang and Mlungisi have already joined us in training to prepare for the game against Zimbabwe.
"Our aim is to beat Zimbabwe again and qualify for the All Africa Games finals in Mozambique in September, but I must say we expect a tough match on Sunday."
Thema, who started coaching at the then Jerry Ramohlale's Turfloop Football School of Excellence, is proud of Motau and Mbutjana.
"It is good to see our national coach also attending development tournaments to scout for new talent," Thema said.
Mashaba was not available for comment at the time of going to press yesterday, but he is on record saying: "Zimbabwe will fall again."
Acting Safa chief executive Pinky "Sister Boss" Lehoko has wished the squad and Banyana Banyana good luck in their matches.
Banyana play Malawi in the semifinal match of the Cosafa Senior Women's Championship today also in Zimbabwe.
