The 33-year-old joined West Ham from Blackburn for an undisclosed fee at the end of the winter transfer window last year but has been overlooked by Grant.
A club statement read: “West Ham United have mutually agreed with Benni McCarthy to part company with immediate effect.

“The club would like to wish Benni well for the future.”
McCarthy made a total of 14 appearances for the Hammers and is now free to join any club in the Premier League that has a space spare in their 25-man squad.
Earlier this season the forward was reportedly fined £200,000 by West Ham after failing to stick to a weight-loss regime.
McCarthy began his career at Seven Stars in his home country before making the move to Europe with Ajax.
From there he went to Porto on loan before securing a permanent deal and Blackburn signed him for £2.5 million in 2006.
