Under 20 AYC final Nigeria vs Cameroon

Nigeria and Cameroon will play the final of the African Youth Championship billed for Sunday. This clash of neighbors was set up after Nigeria beat Mali 2-0, while Cameroon edged out Egypt after a shoot-out.

The match will afford the Flying Eagles to avenge the 1-0 loss they suffered to Cameroon in their second group B game. Coach John Obuh had insisted that Cameroon were lucky to have run away with that slim victory because of the poor state of the pitch.

Uche Nwafor headed home Nigeria’s first goal in the 22 minute of play, while Stanley Okoro came from the bench to put the final nail on Mali with a late penalty.

The second match between Egypt and Cameroon ended on a controversial note. Both sides failed to find the net in 120 minutes.

They had to settle scores from the spot. Egypt missed two of their kicks, while Cameroon also missed twice but on each occasion they had a retake as the Egyptian keeper was judged to have moved off the lines by the assistant referee.

The last call did not go down well with Egyptians who protested but later agreed to allow the game continue. Cameroon keeper who also moved over the line in the first kick was never faulted.

A win over Cameroon will see Nigeria to their sixth title. Mali and Egypt will play the losers final.
