Bafana move to 46th position in Fifa rankings

The South African soccer team has moved up one position to 46th in the latest Fifa World Rankings.

"We are pleased with the continuous improvement of our team’s ranking in the world,” SA Football Association acting CEO Pinky Lehoko said in a statement on Wednesday.

“We will continue to support Bafana Bafana in view of the big challenge ahead of us in the form of qualifying for next year’s Afcon (African Cup of Nations) and the 2014 Fifa World Cup.

“We will remain vigilant and ensure that we discard any form of complacency as we pursue our objective to reclaim our rightful status in world football.”

South Africa faces Egypt in an Afcon qualifying match at Ellis Park on March 26.

Bafana are ranked ninth in Africa, with Ghana leading the continent in 16th place on the global table.

Spain holds top spot in the rankings ahead of the Netherlands in second and Germany in third.
