SAFA officials to undergo Financial Management Course

South African soccer officials will undergo a two-day course on financial management, the SA Football Association (Safa) said on Wednesday.

The training would be conducted by chartered accountant Siphiwe Ngwenya, Safa said in a statement.

It said that getting the finances of the 52 Safa regions and 10 associate members in order was one of its priorities.

This, after some of its members received qualified audits at the end of the financial year.

The course is part of a strategy worked out at Safa’s 2010 AGM and which will be led by Safa vice president Shoes Mazibuko, who also chairs Safa’s finance and administration committee.

“The leadership of Safa has made a pledge to empower members of the association and to respond to their needs in the interest of developing football holistically in our country,” said Mazibuko.

“We are confident that the financial management training will play a significant role in addressing challenges that are experienced by some regions, and it is our intention to see a much improved picture in the next AGM,” he said.

“We have a commissioned an experienced service provider as an indication that we mean business.”

Safa said the training started in Gauteng on Wednesday and would end in KwaZulu-Natal on February 8.
