Equatorial Guinea finished top of Group B, with seven points from two wins and a draw, edging Cameroon out of top spot on a better goal difference.
The Guineans beat Ghana 3-1 yesterday at the Sinaba stadium in Daveyton while Cameroon defeated Algeria 2-1 at Makhulong stadium in Tembisa. Cameroon will play Nigeria in the other semifinal.
When South Africa, known as Banyana Banyana, last played Equatorial Guinea they lost 2-1 in the final of the 2008 African event.
On Sunday, Banyana beat Mali 4-0 and appear to be in good goal-scoring form. But their group was topped by Nigeria, who are unbeaten in the tournament and have scored 10 goals with just one against them, a strike by Banyana's Janine van Wyk in the group match where South Africa lost 2-1 last Thursday in Sinaba stadium.
South Africa have scored seven goals in the tournament so far, with Dlamini Amanda leading the pack with a hat-trick that she scored in a 4-0 drubbing of Mali on Sunday.
The other South African goal-scorers so far have been Mamphasha Popela, Makhabane Mamello, Van Wyk and Seoposenwe Jermaine.
The Nigerian captain, Perpetua Nkwocha, has scored seven goals on her own. She was Africa's womnen's footballer of the year in 2004 and 2005.
