WE need to send an urgent letter to Tottenham Hotspurs coach Harry Redknapp after finding out how out of touch the 63-year old is with reality. But firstly, congratulations to Bafana Bafana’s Bongani Khumalo for concluding a deal at White Hart Lane with effect immediate in January.
The Supersport United captain deserves this move for working so hard and being disciplined while playing for the Premier Soccer League champions. At 23, he has already been involved in his team’s three consecutive title wins – twice as captain.
WELL DONE Bongani.
Now, with that out of the way. Lets educate poor old Harry.

Mr Redknapp showed some ignorance a few weeks ago when he was commenting about Khumalo possibly joining Spurs in January. After the defender spent a week with the club, Redknapp told British newspapers: “It will be a great chance for the kid. He’s a great lad. He comes from a poor background and he’s desperate for a chance, and we’re going to give him a chance.”
We here in SA are left shocked at the coach’s utterances. How can a 23-year-old who actually speaks better English than the old man himself be a “kid who needs the chance because he grew up with a poor background?” Besides the fact that Bongani went to a good school in Pretoria and is very educated, he has helped his local club Supersport United win R30 million in three seasons.
The league winners walk away with R10 million at the end of the season here Harry. So think again, the young man is not poor. He might need the chance to play overseas because his age allows it, but NO sir he is not desperate. I think he might be better off here in SA where he will play and get enough call ups for Bafana to see him replace that palooka Aaron Mokoena.
