Kaizer Chiefs vs Bloemfontein Celtics in MTN 8 clash

Written by Chris Sturdy

Kaizer Chiefs have home advantage for their MTN8 quarter final clash with Bloem Celtic at the Rand Stadium on Saturday evening. Having already lifted the Telkom Charity Cup in their first serious outing of the season, Chiefs are obviously in good shape but Celtic will be no pushovers.

Chiefs finished third on last seasons PSL log, 9 points clear of 6th placed Bloem Celtic. Amakhosi went on to lift the Telkom Knockout Trophy towards the end of the season and there is plenty to like about their squad which has includes several promising youngsters who look set to play a big role this season. Ngcobo, who scored the winner in the Telkom Charity Cup clash with Sundowns, provides Chiefs with more firepower although Chiefs have been frustrated in the transfer market with a deal for Siyabonga Sangweni apparently falling through at the death. Siphiwe Tshabalala remains Chiefs property at the time of writing, despite interest from overseas.

Celtic parted company with Owen da Gama recently and Clinton Larsen has been promoted from assistant coach. There are also quite a few changes to the playing staff with Nathan Paulse, Bennett Chenene and Clifford Mulenga coming in. They have enjoyed a good pre-season, winning the Old Mutual Mangaung Challenge. Celtic beat

Swallows on penalty kicks after a 0-0 draw in the semi final and went on to beat Free State Stars in the final with Nathan Paulse netting the winner.

Celtic took 4 points off Chiefs in the PSL last season, winning 1-0 at home and drawing 1-1 away despite being reduced to 10 men early on. Overall though, Chiefs have a very healthy recent PSL record at home to Celtic.
