Gavin Hunt still making waves in PSL

Johannesburg - Following a momentum-boosting 3-1 Premiership win over Bloemfontein Celtic in Johannesburg on Saturday night, Wits coach Gavin Hunt says he would prefer to play throughout December, instead of taking a break until mid-January.

"I prefer to play right through. I love to play on Boxing Day and on New Year's Day - we should play right through," Hunt said at the Bidvest Stadium after the game.

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) heads for a break on Monday, before resuming after the start of the African Nations Championship (CHAN), which gets underway on January 11.
The win extended Wits' unbeaten run to four consecutive games and consolidated their third placing in the league, leaving Hunt hungry for more games before the end of the year.
On Friday, however, the PSL announced fixtures would be brought forward half-way through January in order to make up for lost time during the first half of the season.

"We complain about the fixtures but we should play right through, shouldn't we? Then we wouldn't have a problem, but it's one of those things," Hunt said.
"I wouldn't really like to stop now. I think a lot of teams wouldn't like to stop either."
Second half goals from Ryan Chapman and Calvin Kadi guided the Clever Boys to victory, after Matthew Pattison broke the deadlock before half-time.

Chapman regained the lead for the home side after Joel Mogorosi equalised shortly after the break. Deep into stoppage time, Kadi added the finishing touches as Wits sealed three points in emphatic style.

"I thought we played in first gear tonight. We just passed the ball around and didn't play with any real intent until they scored," Hunt said.
"Then we moved up a gear and created a lot of chances.
"But at the end of the day, it's three points. We haven't been great at home but we've been very good away from home."

Meanwhile, Celtic boss Ernst Middendorp hinted his team had been handed the short end of the stick by playing two away games in the space three days.

Celtic were defeated by Ajax Cape Town in the Mother City on Wednesday, before the Free State outfit had to travel directly to Johannesburg ahead of Saturday's disappointment.
"We only had three days to prepare for this game. We played on Wednesday evening away from home and we had to travel," the German mentor said.

"Wits played against Maritzburg United on Monday evening. That means you have more-or-less six days, whereas we only had three days.
"And then of course, they are playing at home and they pressed their opponent."
In contrast to his counterpart, Middendorp welcomed the upcoming break and said he was looking forward to the new year.

"We're heading for the break. We'll prepare ourselves and hopefully, with a lot of home games, the supporters will be there and we can make more points."
