Former Mamelodi Sundowns MD Anastasia Tsichlas, Ria Ledwaba, Nomsa Mahlangu, Norman Arendse, Truman Prince, and Xolile Komphela look set to be among those who serve on the Safa national executive committee after their names appeared on many of the nomination lists.
The Safa image has taken a battering over the past few weeks, and the negative publicity has been damaging to the country's most popular sport.
Safa national executive committee member Mzwandile Maforvane said this was the main reason that the majority of the regions had turned to Jordaan, as they believed the former CEO of the 2010 Soccer World Cup local organisation could help restore the mother body's battered
''I will be honest with you, our image is not good at the moment," Maforvane said on Wednesday.
''Our image has deteriorated since we hosted the 2010 Soccer World Cup, and this is not good for the sport.
"We need Danny to help repair the damage we have suffered over the past few months, because we have really taken a beating.
''We also need him to help secure sponsorships because they have also been affected by all this negativity.
"When you compare football to other sporting codes like cricket, we get far less (sponsorship) at Safa and yet we are supposed to be (in charge of) the most popular sport in the country."
Nonkonyana's name on the nomination lists will raise a few eyebrows, as he was believed to be part of a rival group that hopes to convince Premier Soccer League and Orlando Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza to run.
Maforvane said Nonkonyana had told them that he was merely nominated by the delegation — led by Safa vice-president Mandla Mazibuko — and he never actually accepted their nomination.
Safa president Kirsten Nematandani announced his intention to run for a second term a few weeks ago, while Khoza has not confirmed his bid. But the Pirates chairman is believed to be close to deciding whether to accept the nomination from Mazibuko's delegation or not.
Nematandani faces a tricky conundrum, as no region had nominated him to run for a second term by Wednesday afternoon.
Insiders said if it turned out that no region had nominated him to run for a second term by Thursday morning, which was 30 days before the Safa elective congress on September 28, he ran the risk of having to withdraw from the presidential race.
Safa decided at its extraordinary congress in Fourways, north of Johannesburg, at the weekend that the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) would be asked to run the bitter election in September.
With the involvement of the IEC and the adoption of the electoral code, criminal background checks and integrity tests will also be done on all candidates for the first time.
Candidates will be ruled ineligible if:
• They have been convicted of a crime involving breach of trust, fraud, forgery, perjury or violence;
• They are former Safa presidents;
• They were found guilty by a Safa tribunal or court of electoral fraud or other corrupt practice; or
• They are subject to an order of a competent court declaring them as mentally ill or disordered.
