Komphela will guide Bafana in their friendly international against Gabon at Mbombela stadium on Friday, a match he knows Bafana have to use to break their winless streak that dates back to last August
MAKING TRACKS: Bafana's Siphiwe Tshabalala leaves Botswana's Mmlisa Ohilwe in his wake during their World Cup qualifier in Gaborone on Saturday. Bafana Bafana now have 12 points to contest, after dropping four points in their last two World Cup qualifier
STEVE Komphela does not have an inside track to the Bafana Bafana job, but there is no denying the caretaker coach has a unique opportunity to get the prized position.

Komphela has been short-listed for the plum job in a list that includes Premier League-winning coaches Gordon Igesund and Gavin Hunt, and former Bafana skipper and Thanda Royal Zulu coach Neil Tovey.
But while many feel Komphela has an advantage since he is already doing the job on a temporary basis, following the sacking of Pitso Mosimane last week, the Free State Stars coach disagrees.
"If the game against Botswana forms part of the selection criteria, then they will make a mark against my name after that game," said the outspoken Komphela as he wriggled his way out of a knot of questions.
According to an insider at Safa, its bosses are seriously applying their minds to the selection of the new coach and will not rush into the process of appointing Mosimane's successor.
The source said: "Obviously there'll be pressure on the technical committee to find a replacement for Mosimane as soon as possible, but the process could be longer as the association will be looking to find the right man for the job.
"The team hasn't been doing well and that is a serious concern to the association," the source said.
Safa bigwigs watched Bafana stutter to a 1-1 draw against the Zebras at the University of Botswana Stadium on Saturday, a result which put in serious doubt the team's ability to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Bafana now have 12 points to contest, after dropping four points in their last two World Cup qualifiers.
A lot was expected from Bafana against Botswana, not least after their poor start to their qualifier campaign.
Against the Zebras, they got pushed around and at times even bullied, but they never gave up.
"We created chances and could have got goals. It wasn't easy on a bumpy pitch, but we came across good opponents," admitted Komphela.
