NIGERIA'S Super Falcons are here and yesterday they made it resoundingly clear why!
Winning the seventh CAF African Women's Championship is their mission and their 5-0 demolition of Mali in Daveyton should be warning enough. With the final nails being hammered in by Chenyere Mbachu and substitute Francisca Ordega in the second half it was all over bar the shouting.
It was always going to be when and by how much. But when the Super Falcons got into their stride it was clear who the queens of African women's football are. It took an exquisite piece of skill from Perpetua Nkwocha at 14 minutes when she waltzed past two Malian defenders and keeper Goundo Samake to easily slot in the first goal.
As Mali were reeling from the shock of that goal, they were caught on the break from the kick-off and the ball fell kindly for Nkwocha who ran half the fielding, dribbling past a number of Malian players to finally unleash an unstoppable scorcher past a bemused Samake.
Fifteen minutes into the game and it was 2-0.
Mali then surrendered with even the silky skills of Fatoumata Diarra fading as the game progressed. The Malians had not reckoned with the rampant Falcons, and Nkwocha in particular as she made it a hat-trick on the half-hour mark.
Today's fixture is Equatorial Guinea versus Cameroon at 11am, with Algeria playing Ghana in the second game at 3.30pm.
