Knowledge Musona back Chiefs win Gauteng Cup

Knowledge Musona
Stuart Baxter was thrilled to see striker Knowledge Musona racking up his first goal for the team since returning to Kaizer Chiefs from Germany.

The Zimbabwean, who made a big impact on the PSL between 2009 and 2011, was on the score-sheet during AmaKhosi’s 4-1 win over Bloemfontein Celtic ion Sunday’s Gauteng Cup final.

Musona scored in the 67th minute with a clinical effort, looking full of confidence and composure as he rifled a low first-time shot into the bottom corner, following a great run by Tsepo Masilela.

The 23-year-old battled for game-time and form during a two year stint in the Bundesliga, but judging from his goal, as well as his body language, he could be set for another fruitful stay in South Africa, having netted 15 league goals in his last season in the PSL.

Baxter was thrilled to see the ‘Smiling Assassin’ finding the back of the net, and is also confident the former 1899 Hoffenheim front man will give Chiefs even more variation in attack, where the likes of Bernard Parker, Kingston Nkhatha, Lehlohonolo Majoro and Kaizer Motaung Jr are all competing for places.

“Knowledge has been a pleasure to work with since he came to the club, he’s been willing to get into our way of playing. I think he can play in two or three different positions for us. It was very nice that he could score a goal.

“We were hoping he would get one, and then as soon as he got one, we got a chance to take him off because he was cramping,” said Baxter.

The Englishman and his side are of course preparing to defend their Absa Premiership title this season, but the more immediate task at hand is the Black Label Cup clash against old foes Orlando Pirates this weekend.

“It was good preparation, Celtic are a good team, they are well organised, and difficult to play against; another week now till we take on Pirates in the Carling Cup, its going to be a great day for everybody.

“Looking at my own players, I’m pleased to see the possession and e movement so early in the season. The general performance was a good level.”

Pirates were also in action on the weekend, drawing 0-0 with Congolese side AC Leopards in a Champions League match at Orlando Stadium on Saturday night.
